Verification & Validation Engineer
Steady Energy is a Finnish nuclear technology company developing the LDR-50 small modular reactor (SMR) to provide safe, scalable, and carbon-free heat for district heating and industrial applications. Our mission is to accelerate the clean energy transition by combining uncompromising nuclear safety, modern systems engineering practices, and agile product development.
We are now looking for an experienced Verification and Validation Engineer to join our Architecture and Integration group and support the conceptual and design phase of the LDR-50 plant. In this role, you will ensure that our engineered systems meet specified requirements, regulatory standards, and stakeholder expectations across the full lifecycle, from concept and design to commissioning and operation.
This is a critical position in a safety-driven environment. You will work at the intersection of systems engineering, regulatory compliance, and technical excellence, ensuring that our plant design is verifiable, validated, and aligned with nuclear safety principles from day one.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and maintain the overall V&V strategy, processes, and methods (test, analysis, inspection, demonstration).
- Establish system-specific V&V plans and acceptance criteria across the power plant.
- Ensure full traceability between requirements, verification activities, and validation evidence.
- Lead V&V activities throughout the lifecycle: concept, design, manufacturing, commissioning, and operation.
- Review system requirements, specifications, and architectures for verifiability and testability.
- Lead and perform system design reviews, including:
- Review of design documentation (MBSE models, logic flow diagrams, schematics, specifications, system descriptions, interface documents).
- Organization and facilitation of design review sessions with key stakeholders.
- Documentation of review findings and decisions.
- Oversee verification and validation activities (analysis, inspection, testing, demonstration).
- Collect and manage documented evidence to declare successful V&V for dedicated systems.
- Coordinate resolution of non-conformities identified during V&V activities.
- Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for non-conformities.
In the first 6–12 months, we expect you to:
- Establish a structured and scalable V&V framework tailored to the LDR-50 design phase.
- Strengthen review of culture and systematic documentation of V&V evidence.
- Support early identification and mitigation of technical and regulatory risks.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in systems engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or I&C engineering.
- 8–12+ years of engineering experience, with significant responsibility in verification and validation.
- Proven experience working on complex, safety-critical, or regulated systems in the energy sector.
- Strong background in systems engineering, requirements management, and the V-model concept.
- Strong systems-thinking and integration mindset.
- Ability to challenge designs constructively and independently.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills, along with fluent English proficiency, to effectively coordinate across diverse multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage complex projects and multiple technical activities.
- Comfortable operating in multidisciplinary engineering environments.
Preferred skills and qualifications:
- Understanding of nuclear plant systems, architecture, and safety classification.
- Experience supporting licensing, certification, or regulatory approval processes.
- Background in safety analysis or quality management systems.
What We Offer:
At Steady Energy, you’ll be part of a supportive and forward-thinking organization. We provide:
- Comprehensive occupational health care (through Terveystalo Sujuva).
- Accident and travel insurance covers both work and leisure time.
- Paid annual leave from the start of employment.
- Epassi benefits: lunch and flex-benefit (incl. culture, sports, health, massage, commuting, dental care).
- Salary range: 6500 – 7500 € per month depending on experience.
- Flexible hybrid/remote working options where applicable.
- Opportunities for learning, professional growth, and career progression.
