Interface & Integration Engineer
Steady Energy is a Finnish nuclear technology company developing the LDR-50 small modular reactor (SMR) to deliver safe, scalable, and carbon-free heat production for district heating and industrial applications. Our mission is to accelerate the clean energy transition by combining world-class engineering, uncompromising nuclear safety, and agile product development.
We are now looking for an experienced Interface and Integration Engineer to join our Architecture and Integration group. In this role, you will play a central part in ensuring the technical coherence and functional integration of the LDR-50 plant during its conceptual and design phases. You will work at the heart of system integration, connecting disciplines, aligning stakeholders, and ensuring that interfaces are clearly defined, consistently managed, and fully aligned with safety and project requirements throughout the design lifecycle.
If you are motivated by complex system challenges, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the opportunity to shape a first-of-a-kind nuclear energy solution, this role offers a meaningful and technically demanding platform to make an impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, define, document, and manage all internal and external interfaces, including: o System-to-system interfaces o Discipline interfaces (civil, mechanical, electrical, I&C, nuclear safety) o Interfaces between NSSS, BOP, civil works, and site
- Establish and maintain the Interface Management Plan (IMP).
- Develop and manage Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Definition Documents (IDDs).
- Ensure interfaces are consistently reflected across design documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Manage interfaces between system designs to maintain consistency and optimize the overall plant architecture.
- Coordinate resolution of interface issues, clashes, and inconsistencies across engineering disciplines.
- Chair and facilitate interface meetings and technical coordination workshops.
- Track interface actions, decisions, and open points to closure.
- Support design reviews and interface-related risk identification.
- Support configuration management and change control processes by assessing interface impacts.
- Model interfaces in the MBSE tool and define interface guidelines and best practices.
- Verify that system designs collectively meet functional and safety requirements and align with operational and safety concepts documentation.
In the first 6–12 months, we expect you to:
- Establish a structured and robust interface management framework for the LDR-50 design phase.
- Ensure all critical system and discipline interfaces are identified and documented.
- Improve transparency and traceability of interface-related decisions and changes.
- Strengthen cross-discipline collaboration and reduce design clashes through proactive coordination.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in systems engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- 5–10+ years of experience in large, complex engineering projects, preferably in nuclear power plants or other highly regulated industries (e.g., oil & gas, aerospace, rail).
- Demonstrated experience in interface management, system integration, or design coordination.
- Strong understanding of at least one relevant engineering discipline (mechanical, electrical, or systems).
- Strong systems-thinking and integration mindset.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills; fluent English required to coordinate across diverse technical teams.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing complex technical environments.
- Proven problem-solving abilities and proactive approach to resolving technical issues.
Preferred skills and qualifications:
- Experience with MBSE tools (e.g., Catia Magic, Cameo, SysML, Capella, Enterprise Architect).
- Experience with PLM tools (e.g., Enovia, Teamcenter) and requirement management tools (e.g., DOORS, Reqtify, Polarion).
- Professional certification (e.g., INCOSE).
- Understanding of nuclear plant systems, architecture, and safety classification principles.
What We Offer:
At Steady Energy, you’ll be part of a supportive and forward-thinking organization. We provide:
- Comprehensive occupational health care (through Terveystalo Sujuva).
- Accident and travel insurance covers both work and leisure time.
- Paid annual leave from the start of employment.
- Epassi benefits: lunch and flex-benefit (incl. culture, sports, health, massage, commuting, dental care)
- Salary range: 6500-7500 € per month depending on experience.
- Flexible hybrid/remote working options where applicable.
- Opportunities for learning, professional growth, and career progression.
